Woodland wins twice on Saturday

The Woodland Wildcats baseball team secured two victories on Saturday in Spring Garden, Alabama games.
WOODLAND 14, SPRING GARDEN (AL) 0
In the first of two games on Saturday for Woodland in Alabama, the Wildcats and Spring Garden remained scoreless through the first three innings. However, Woodland peppered the Panthers for 14 runs over the final four innings in a 14-0 shutout.
With two outs in the top of the fourth, the Wildcats strung together three hits with a Spring Garden infield error to take a 3-0 lead. They added another run in the top of the sixth on two hits and another Panther error.
Ahead 4-0, Woodland put the game out of reach with a 10-run top of the seventh inning. Five hits, five walks, and two hit batsmen produced the Wildcats’ big inning. They sent 15 batters to the plate in the frame.
Kallen Reynolds (3.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 4BB, 3K) and Lucas Baker (3.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 3K) earned the pitching win and save, respectively.
Preston Sorrells went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI to lead Woodland’s offensive attack. One of his three hits was a double. Jake Clowers (two RBI), Ben Turcotte (double), and Tommy Risner (RBI) had two hits. Conner Lujan (triple, RBI), Tucker James (two RBi), Sammy Ray (RBI), Alfredo Romo, and Baker added one hit. Steven Tumlin and Jacob Tatum had one RBI.
WOODLAND 2, CHEROKEE CO. (AL) 1
The Woodland Wildcats made it a three-game season sweep of the Cherokee County Warriors of Centre, Alabama, on Saturday, but it took extra innings. The game was played at Spring Garden.
Woodland took advantage of two walks to begin the top of the second inning when Jake Clowers drove in a run with a single into center field. That 1-0 lead held for the Wildcats until Cherokee pushed across a tying run in the bottom of the seventh.
In the top of the eighth inning, Lucas Baker led off with a single, advanced to second on a groundout, and moved to third on an infield error. Baker then scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Christian Duran (3 IP, 1ER, 1H, 2K) worked a clean bottom of the eighth on the mound for the Wildcats to close the game and collect the win. Austin Daves (5 IP, 0R, 4H, 0BB, 7K) made the pitching start for Woodland and received no decision.
Seven Wildcats had one hit each, including Clowers (RBI), Baker, Alfredo Romo, Conner Lujan, Ben Turcotte, Tommy Risner, and Jonathan Ryan.
The loss left Cherokee with a 4-6 record.
Woodland (5-2) hosts Cedartown on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to begin a three-game Region 7-AAAA series that will continue with a doubleheader on Friday.
