Woodland boys top Gordon Central; Cass teams fall at South Paulding

The Woodland High boys basketball team evened its season mark Thursday night with a 67-55 home win over Gordon Central. Meanwhile, the Cass High girls and boys teams lost their 2024-25 season openers in games played at South Paulding.
WOODLAND BOYS 67, GORDON CENTRAL 55
Jayden Metcalf scored 20 points to lead the Wildcats to their first win of the season over Gordon Central (0-1). Bryson Van Tonder and Isaiah Livsey added 15 points in the victory.
Woodland (1-1) plays at Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday.
SOUTH PAULDING 59, CASS GIRLS 35
The Lady Colonels trailed 16-6 after one quarter and were down 41-15 at halftime as the host Lady Spartans pulled away for a 59-35 win.
Chloe VanDyke scored a game-high 19 points to lead South Paulding.
Darianna Sosa scored 14 points to lead Cass scorers. Cadie Paez and Nakayla Evans added six points.
“We got in early foul trouble, but the kids played well. South Paulding has a good team and nice size,” noted Cass coach Brandan Harrell.
South Paulding evened its record at 1-1.
Cass (0-1) hosts Excel Christian Academy on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
SOUTH PAULDING 81, CASS BOYS 48
The host Spartans outscored Cass 28-4 in the second quarter Thursday night, leading 41-15 at halftime. They then pulled away for an 81-48 win over the Colonels.
Logan Sparks led South Paulding with 14 points. Josiah Azu and Isaiah Ford followed with 13 points each.
Jason Brown scored 11 for Cass, and Comari Nettles added seven.
The Spartans improved to 2-0.
Cass (0-1) plays at North Paulding on Saturday at 4 p.m.
