Wildcats win baseball opener

The Woodland Wildcats’ baseball team overpowered visiting Rome on Monday night to win their baseball opener, 14-0.
The Wildcats scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and added on each frame for a mercy run-rule victory in five innings.
Woodland outhit the Wolves eleven to two.
Lucas Baker (3 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 4K) made the pitching start for the Wildcats and collected the win on the mound. Christian Duran (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 2K) and Kallen Reynolds (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB, 2K) pitched one inning in relief.
Alfredo Romo had four hits and one RBI. Zaylen Cochran produced two hits and two RBI. Jake Clowers (double, RBI), Conner Lujan, Baker (RBI), Ben Turcotte (two RBI), and Jonathan Ryan (two RBI) had one hit. Preston Sorrells was credited with one RBI.
Woodland (1-0) visits Pickens on Thursday for a 6 p.m. start.
