Tigers pull away in the second half for a win at Calhoun

In games that were rescheduled from last weekend, the Adairsville High basketball teams split Region 7-3A contests Thursday night at Calhoun.
ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 71, CALHOUN 54
The Tigers moved to within one-half game of first place in Region 7-3A Thursday night with a 71-54 win at Calhoun.
As a result, Adairsville, Calhoun, and Northwest Whitfield have one loss at the top of the region standings.
The Tigers held an 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and were up 35-29 at the intermission but built an 18-point lead by the end of the third quarter, 59-41.
“It was another great defensive effort,” said Adairsville coach Alex Disbrow. “A good win, but we have another important region game tomorrow night.”
Tre Winters and Xavious Nalls led Adairsville with 24 and 22 points, respectively. Tyrek Hames and Ben Abernathy added eight points for the Tigers.
Trace Hawkins led Calhoun (8-3, 4-1) with 17 points, and Jaxon Moore scored 16.
Adairsville (10-8, 5-1) hosts Gilmer on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
CALHOUN 50, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 20
The Lady Tigers had a problematic scoring night Thursday at Calhoun and fell to the Lady Jackets, 50-20.
Calhoun led 16-6 at the end of the opening period and 28-12 at halftime. Adairsville then managed only eight more points in the second half.
Jaylene Johns led Calhoun (10-5, 4-1) with 12 points. Jaylen Moore scored 10 for the Lady Jackets.
NaXyria Roberts and Alivia Joslin scored five points for the Lady Tigers.
Adairsville (9-10, 2-4) hosts Gilmer in a Region 7-3A game on Friday at 7 p.m.
