Thursday's softball: Woodland and Adairsville earn come-from-behind wins, Cass falls in extra innings

Evelyn Tucker picked up the pitching win for Woodland on Thursday.

Woodland scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday evening for a come-from-behind 16-10 win at home over Southeast Whitfield.


The Raiders led 7-5 after two innings before the Wildcats grabbed a 9-7 advantage in the bottom of the fourth. Southeast tied the game in the fifth inning and took a 10-9 lead midway through the sixth inning before the Woodland comeback.


Bitsy Hartsfield (home run, four RBI), Jordan Hammonds (two triples, three RBI), and Bailey Ryan (triple, double, two RBI) had three hits for the Lady Cats. Alana Carnes (double, RBI) and Lanie Calhoun (double) produced two hits. Charlee Byrd (triple, two RBI) and Kamryn Smith (double, RBI) added one hit for Woodland.


Evelyn Tucker (2 IP, 0R, 2H, 0BB, 1K) collected the pitching win for the Lady Cats in relief of Smith (1.2 IP, 7R, 5ER, 7H, 0BB) and Gracie Korb (3.1 IP, 3ER, 4H, 4BB, 1K).


The loss dropped Southeast Whitfield to 1-22 on the season and 1-17 in Region 7-4A.


Woodland (7-14, 7-13) closes the regular season on Tuesday at Allatoona.




ADAIRSVILLE 2, NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 1


Adairsville’s Riley Mounger and Alivia Joslin had RBI singles in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday night to lift the Lady Tigers to a 2-1 walk-off victory over visiting Northwest Whitfield.


Ashlyn Carlton pitched a seven-inning gem (7IP, 1ER, 4H, 1BB, 8K), but the Tigers trailed 1-0 until they strung together their only three hits to pull out the victory.


Ashlynn Durden led off the Adairsville seventh with a single, and Lily Roberts advanced her to second with a sacrifice. Roberts also reached base on a Bruins error during the play. Mounger drove in a run with her hit, and Joslin drove in the game-winning run after Adysen Garvey reached on a hit-by-pitch.


The loss dropped Northwest Whitfield to 8-21 on the season and 6-12 in Region 7-AAA.


Adairsville (14-13, 6-12) hosts Chattooga on Monday at 5:55 p.m.




ALLATOONA 5, CASS 3  (8 innings)


Cass softball took sixth-ranked Allatoona to extra innings Thursday night, but the Lady Buccaneers strung together four consecutive singles to start the eighth inning and escape with a 5-3 win.


Allatoona scored three runs in the fourth inning to lead 3-0. Cass answered with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to extend the game.


Kylie Gentry pitched all eight innings for the Colonels. She yielded five runs (four earned) on eleven hits. She issued no walks and struck out four.


Braelyn Franklin (double, RBI) had two hits for Cass. Darianna Sosa (RBI), Sydney Satterfield, and Chloe Hill added one hit.


Allatoona improved to 19-2 overall and 19-1 in Region 7-4A.


Cass (15-9, 13-7) closes out region play at home on Tuesday against Dalton at 5:30 p.m.
