Strong second half lifts Chargers in regular-season finale

The Georgia Highlands College men’s basketball team wrapped up regular season play on Saturday afternoon in Rome with a 93-75 conference win over Southern Crescent Tech.


The Chargers trailed the Tigers 39-37 at the intermission but outscored Southern Crescent 56-36 in the second half for an 18-point win.


The GHC defense clamped down in the second half, limiting Southern Crescent to only 32 percent from the floor.


Jay’Quan Nelson and Cameron Baldwin led the Georgia Highlands scoring column with 18 points. Marquin Thompson scored 17 points off the Chargers’ bench. Jordan Johnson added 10 points. Baldwin also grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double.


Matthew Willis scored 25 points to lead the Tigers.


The Chargers finished the regular season with a 17-11 record and were 9-7 in conference play. 


Georgia Highlands plays at South Georgia Tech on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the GCAA Tournament.
