Softball: Lady Canes win 20th, Woodland wins at Dalton

Jordan Bishop and Layne Callan homered Monday as the Lady Canes dispatched host Hiram, 11-2, for their 20th win of the season.


Pitcher Zoie Shiflett did not allow a hit or walk and struck out eight in the first three innings in the circle. Presley Crabbe (4 IP, 2ER, 1H, 2BB, 4K) closed out the final four frames for the Canes.


Callan finished with two hits. Kinsey Woodard (two RBI), LaKaiya Banks (RBI), A Pettix, Shiflett, and Kennedy Crenshaw (two RBI) had one hit. Taryn Bradley drove in one run.


The loss dropped Hiram to 4-17 overall and 2-16 in Region 7-4A.


Cartersville (20-4, 17-1) hosts an important matchup with region co-leader Allatoona on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.



WOODLAND 7, DALTON 3

Kamryn Smith

Four Lady Cats had two hits each Monday night in a 7-3 Region 7-4A win at Dalton.


Jordan Hammonds, Kamryn Smith (three RBI), Ashlyn Baines (RBI), and Bailey Gerstner produced two hits for Woodland. Alana Carnes, Mackenzie Araya (RBI), and Bailey Ryan added one hit. Lanie Calhoun and Bitsy Hartsfield drove in one run.


Smith earned the pitching victory by working all seven innings in the circle. She allowed three earned runs on eight hits and six walks while fanning five.


The loss dropped Dalton to 5-15 overall and 5-13 in region play.


Woodland (6-13, 6-12) plays at Hiram on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
