Soccer roundup: Lady Cats blank Hiram

Local high school soccer results for Friday, March 20.

WOODLAND GIRLS 10, HIRAM 0

The Woodland girls’ soccer team blanked visiting Hiram Friday night, 10-0.

The Lady Cats led 4-0 at the intermission and closed out the contest with six more goals in the second half.

Sammie Espinoza started the Woodland scoring with an unassisted goal in the 10th minute. Libby Morgan followed with goals in the 27th and 33rd minutes off assists from Carlie Forman and Maddie Weightman. Espinoza scored her second goal in the 36th minute on a feed from Morgan.

Weightman opened the Wildcats’ second half with consecutive goals to make the score 6-0. The first was unassisted in the opening minute of the second half and the second goal finished off a pass from Espinoza.

Mogan and Espinoza finished off hat tricks later in the half to give Woodland an 8-0 lead. Brionna Carver and Jackie Arias added goals to end the contest in the 56th minute.

Morgan finished wiht three goals and two assists. Espinoza scored three goals with one assist. Weightman scored twice and contributed three assists.  Karyme Hernandez had an assist on the goal by Arias.

Hiram dropped to 5-6 overall and 0-6 in Regon 7-AAAA.

Woodland (3-7, 1-4) plays at Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday and hosts a non-region match with North Paulding on Wednesday.

HIRAM 1, WOODLAND BOYS 0

The Hornets and Wildcats played almost 73 minutes in a scoreless tie before Hiram found the net for the game’s only goal.

Hiram improved to 6-5 overall and 1-5 in Region 7-AAAA.

Woodland (2-8, 0-5) visits Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.

ALLATOONA 10, CASS GIRLS 0

The host Lady Buccaneers scored seven first-half goals en route to a 10-0 win over the Cass Lady Colonels. 

Allatoona improved to 10-1 overall and stayed undefeated in Region 7-AAAA with a 6-0 mark.

The Cass girls (1-9, 1-5) travel to Dalton on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.

ALLATOONA 3, CASS BOYS 1

The Buccaneeers led 2-1 at the intermission and scored the only goal of the second half to defeat visiting Cass on Friday.

Allatoona improved to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in Region 7-AAAA.

Cass (6-5, 4-2) travels to region-leading and 2nd-ranked Dalton (11-0, 6-0) on Tuesday.

SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 3, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 0

The Lady Canes lost at Southeast Whitfield Friday night, 3-0.

The Lady Raiders improved to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in Region 7-AAAA.

Cartersville (3-6, 2-3) visits Hiram for another region match on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 10, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 1

The host Raiders led 3-1 at halftime and cruised in the second half with seven more goals to defeat Cartersville on Friday night in Dalton, 10-1.

Southeast Whitfield improved to 6-4 overall and 2-3 in Region 7-AAAA.

Cartersville (2-6, 0-5) plays a region match at Hiram on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
