Sixth inning rally lifts Cass to region softball win at Woodland
Cass softball scored four times in the top of the sixth inning Wednesday night at Woodland for a come-from-behind 9-6 Region 7-5A victory.
The Lady Colonels peppered 15 hits in the contest while pitchers Emma Gibson and Alexis Woods combined their efforts in the circle.
Woods (5.2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 7H, 2BB, 2K) picked up the pitching win for Cass in relief of the starter Gibson (1.1 IP, 4ER, 2H, 3BB, 2K).
Woodland utilized three members of the Lady Cats pitching staff. Peyton Dorn (2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 3H) was tagged with the pitching loss in relief of Haley Collum (3 IP, 5ER, 10H, 3BB, 2K). Ashlyn Baines (2 IP, 0R, 2H, 0BB, 2K) also pitched for Woodland.
Haylee Dishmon paced the Colonels’ offense with four hits including a double and one RBI. Woods and Reese Howard (RBI) followed with three hits each. Ansley Hight had two hits and three RBIs including a sixth inning, two-run home run that gave Cass a 7-6 lead.
Braelyn Franklin, Darianna Sosa (RBI), and Bailey York (2 RBIs) added one hit apiece for the Lady Colonels.
Bailey Sakacsi had three hits for Woodland including a double. Dorn contributed a pair of hits and two RBIs. Mackenzie Araya also finished with two hits.
Kamryn Smith (RBI) and Alana Carnes added one hit each for the Wildcats. Collum (sac fly) and Jordan Hammonds added one RBI each.
Cass (6-6, 3-2) travels to Pickens Thursday for a non-region doubleheader at 5 p.m.
Woodland (6-6, 3-2) plays next at Calhoun Tuesday in a 5:55 p.m. start.
