GHC softball drops season-opening doubleheader
Georgia Highlands College softball opened the 2022 season Friday with a doubleheader in Florida against Lake-Sumter State. The Chargers dropped both games falling 8-6 and 8-2.
GHC started fast in the opener scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, but Lake-Sumter tied the game in the bottom of the third and scored four more times over their final three frames.
In Game 2, the Lakehawks led 5-1 through the first three innings and held on for an 8-2 win. The Chargers scored single runs in the second and fifth innings.
Haley Robinson had four hits and three RBIs in the doubleheader for Georgia Highlands. Madison Dennis and Hailey Cronic (2 RBIs) both finished with three hits on the day. Emma Veitch added a two-run home run in the opening game.
Maggie Schandera (4IP, 7R, 5ER, 6H, 3BB) started in the circle and suffered the Game 1 pitching loss. Veitch (2.2IP, 5R, 1ER, 2H, 3BB, 1K) was the starting pitcher and took the loss in Game 2.
