GHC baseball sweeps DH, wins series with East Georgia

Georgia Highlands College baseball won both games of a doubleheader Saturday with visiting East Georgia State CC. The Chargers won the first game 2-1 and took the second matchup of the day, 6-1.
Trey Baker (6 IP, 1ER, 5H, 2BB, 6K) was the winning pitcher in the opener. Chandler Anderson (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1K) closed out the seventh inning to earn a save.
Parker Poteet hit a solo home run for the Chargers' first run in the bottom of the second inning. Following a walk and sacrifice bunt, Trippe Moore drove in another run with a line drive single into center field.
East Georgia cut the lead in half with a single run in the fourth inning, but the Georgia Highlands’ pitching took over from there.
In the second win, the Chargers outhit the Bobcats nine to four in a 6-1 victory.
Zayd Branningan doubled twice and drove in one run. Ryan Wideman had a pair of doubles and Poteet finished with two hits. Mitchell Walker contributed a double with two RBIs. Austin Slate had one hit, a sac fly, and two RBIs. Chris Buchanan added a hit and Moore drove home a run with a sacrifice fly.
Zach Valentine (4 IP, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 2K) earned the pitching win for the Chargers. Adrian Roman (3 IP, 0R, 1H, 4K) closed out the final three frames in shutout fashion.
East Georgia slipped to 17-17 overall and 3-5 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association with Saturday’s losses.
Georgia Highlands (25-11, 5-3) returns to action Tuesday at Gordon College and will host three games with the Highlanders Friday and Saturday.
