Georgia Highlands softball sweeps doubleheader at East Georgia State
Georgia Highlands College softball swept a conference doubleheader Tuesday at East Georgia State CC in Swainsboro. The Chargers won the opener 7-0 and took the second game with an 8-1 final score.
Five Chargers produced two hits each and pitcher Gracee Ellis tossed a complete-game, six-hit shutout as Georgia Highlands won the first game of the day.
Then the Chargers’ offense pounded out fourteen hits in the second game and cruised to a second win behind another strong pitching performance by Haley Robinson.
Ellis struck out two in her shutout. Robinson also fanned two while yielding just one earned run on four hits and four walks.
Taylor Justice (2 RBIs), Emma Veitch (2 RBIs), Bradey Tharp, Audrey Johnson (solo HR, RBI), and Robinson each produced two hits for GHC in the first win. Hailey Cronic (double, RBI), Annsley Todd, and Madison Dennis contributed one hit each.
In the second game Tuesday, Todd paced the offense with three hits. Tharp (double, 3 RBIs), Allison Deweese (RBI), Dennis, and Cronic produced two hits each. Robinson (2 RBIs), Johnson (double, RBI), and Justice (double) added one hit apiece for the Chargers.
The losses dropped the Bobcats to 33-24 on the season and 11-9 in conference play.
Georgia Highlands (13-33, 6-12 GCAA) hosts South Georgia CC Sunday in a 1 p.m. conference doubleheader at Stars Field.
