Friday hoops roundup: Local teams drop contests

The visiting Sonoraville Phoenix and Lady Phoenix won non-region games Friday night at Cass.
The Sonoraville girls won 65-21 and the Sonoraville boys topped the Colonels, 69-59.
SONORAVILLE 65, CASS GIRLS 21
Ella Kate Walraven scored 17 and Erin Garland posted 12 points Friday night to lead the Sonoraville Lady Phoenix to a 24-point win at Cass.
Sonoraville (1-1) led 30-3 after one quarter and 46-7 at halftime.
Yvonne Ellison led the Lady Colonels with ten points. KK Evans added six.
“This was a tough one,” noted Cass coach Brandan Harrell. “We were down two starters at the tip and lost another early to a knee injury. Some of our younger players got some valuable playing time. It was a good learning night.”
Cass (0-2) visits Central-Carroll on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
SONORAVILLE 69, CASS BOYS 59
The Colonels and Phoenix exchanged leads throughout the first three quarters, but it was Sonoraville that pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 69-59 victory.
Cass trailed 21-19 after one quarter before grabbing a 33-31 lead at the intermission. Sonoraville went back ahead 45-44 after three quarters and outscored the Colonels by nine in the final eight minutes.
Braxton Coats and Eli Ballew scored 20 points to lead Sonoraville (1-1).
Dylan Miller led Cass with 18 points. Jakai Baldwin and Jason Brown added ten and nine points, respectively.
Cass (1-3) plays at Central-Carroll on Saturday.

Next for Excel Christian (4-3) is a holiday tournament game at Harrison High School on Monday at 2 p.m. The Eagles will square off with South Atlanta.
