Excel Christian suffers loss to Murray County

The Excel Christian Academy boys basketball team stayed close with visiting Murray County well into the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon before falling to the Indians, 80-59.

Murray County led 16-9 after one quarter, 31-23 at halftime, and 50-44 through three quarters. The Indians outscored the Eagles 30-18 in the final eight minutes to pull away and seal their victory.

Luke Smith and Jaiston Duff scored 21 points to lead Murray County (6-13). Cayce Robinette added 18 points for the Indians. 

Evan Chappell posted 17 points for ECA. Jorge Ricardo finished with eight points. Kamarion Profit and Kaiyu Huffman added seven points for the Eagles.

Excel Christian (12-8) has clinched the top-seed in the GAPPS Class A Region 1 tournament to be played the first week in February. The Eagles complete their regular season schedule this week. ECA hosts Cross Keys on Wednesday night before traveling to Oakwood Christian on Thursday and Covenant Christian Academy on Friday.
