Colonels win series opener at Southeast Whitfield

Cass baseball's first game of this week’s three-game series with Southeast Whitfield was pushed back 24 hours due to a shortage of umpires on Tuesday, but the Colonels' bats were ready in a 9-1 win in Dalton.


Cass scored five runs in the top of the second inning and added on late to secure their victory.


The early runs were enough for pitchers Hunter Lovett (5 IP, 0R, 2H, 0BB, 9K) and Nic Wright (2 IP, 1ER, 2H, 0BB, 1K), who combined to scatter four hits and compiled ten strikeouts.



Zach Stiles led the Colonels’ offensive attack with three doubles and three RBI. Dustin Warner (double, RBI) and Wright (triple) had two hits. Landon Lamb (RBI), Lovett (RBI), and Trenton Elario contributed one hit. Chase Tatum drove in one run.

The Raiders fell to 4-15 overall and 1-9 in Region 7-AAAA.


Cass (8-10, 3-7) will host a doubleheader with Southeast Whitfield on Friday, starting at 5 p.m.
