Colonels, Tigers, and Eagles earn basketball wins

The Cass Colonels, Adairsville Tigers, and Excel Eagles all won in local high school boys' basketball on Tuesday night.



CASS BOYS 55, WOODLAND 51


The Cass and Woodland boys' basketball teams battled for four quarters Tuesday night before the visiting Colonels won 55-51.


The Wildcats led 17-16 after the opening eight minutes before Cass held leads of 29-23 at halftime and 40-36 after three quarters.


Parnel Gamble led the Cass scoring attack with 13 points. Xavier Lowe finished with ten points, and Jakai Baldwin chipped in seven for the Colonels.


Jayden Metcalf paced Woodland with 14 points. Tylen Metcalf followed with 11, and Isaiah Livsey added nine for the Wildcats.


“Woodland is a good team that always plays us hard,” said Cass coach Kevin Cunningham. “I’m just happy to get a win tonight.”


Woodland (2-5, 0-1) hosts Unity Christian on Thursday and Hiram on Friday. Both games tip at 7:30 p.m.


Cass (3-4, 1-0) will visit Southeast Whitfield on Friday at 8:30 p.m. for another region game.




ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 63, NORTH PAULDING 53


The Tigers built an 11-point lead in the first half Tuesday night and held off the visiting North Paulding Wolfpack in the second half for a 62-53 non-region win.


Adairsville led 35-24 at the intermission and extended the lead to 47-31 after three quarters.


Ben Abernathy and Tre Winters led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points each. Xavious Nalls added 15.


Algis Montiejunas scored 17 for the Wolfpack. Raedan Jones followed with 14 for North Paulding (2-4).


Adairsville (2-2) opens Region 7-AAA play Friday at Gilmer in an 8:30 p.m. tip. The Tigers will play Therrell on Saturday at noon at Etowah High School in the Wood Elite Showcase.




EXCEL CHRISTIAN BOYS 78, CHEROKEE CHRISTIAN 73


The Eagles outscored visiting Cherokee Christian 23-13 in the third quarter Tuesday night in a come-from-behind victory over the Warriors.


Cherokee Christian led 22-16 after one quarter and 32-29 at halftime before the Eagles took control of the game in the third quarter.


Excel led 52-45 after three quarters and held on in the final eight minutes for a five-point win.


Carter May led four Excel players in double-figures with 21 points. Kaiyu Huffman finished with 17. Evan Chappell scored 14, and Christian Vieira added 12 for the Eagles. 


Rutherford Nease led Cherokee Christian (0-1) with 29 points in their season opener.


ECA (5-4) returns to action next Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Unity Christian School.




DALTON 54, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 47


The Purple Hurricanes held a narrow lead at halftime Tuesday night at Dalton, 26-25, but the Catamounts grabbed the lead in the third quarter and held on for a 54-47 win in both teams’ Region 7-AAAA opener.


Dalton led 13-11 after one quarter and regained the lead at 38-34 by the end of the third quarter.


Kobi Cooper led the Catamounts with 16 points. CJ Weaver contributed 12 for Dalton (2-1, 1-0).


Cartersville got 16 points from Wyatt Thomason. Nas Bennett tossed in 15, and Jake Johnson added eight points for the Hurricanes.


Cartersville (2-1, 0-1) hosts Allatoona on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in The Storm Center. The Canes will also host New Manchester on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
