Georgia Highlands College softball split a doubleheader Saturday with conference-foe Georgia Military College at Carol Brown Field in Cartersville. The visiting Bulldogs won the opening game 8-1 and the Chargers won the second game 5-4.

Georgia Military scored six runs in the top of the fifth to break open a tight game in the opener. GHC scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth.
All eight runs for the Bulldogs in the opening game were unearned off Georgia Highlands pitching.
Hayden Joyner (4.2 IP, 7R, 0ER 9H, 1BB) was charged with the pitching loss for GHC. Grace Kendrick (2.1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2H, 1K) retired the final seven outs in the circle.
In Game 2, the Chargers trailed 1-0 in the early innings but scored two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to grab a 5-1 advantage. Georgia Military rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh, but GHC pitcher Athens Hudson induced two flyouts and struck out the final batter to extinguish the Bulldogs’ late threat.
Hudson (5 IP, 3R, 0ER, 4H, 3BB, 3K) collected the pitching win for the Chargers in relief of Kendrick (2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 0BB, 1K), who started Game 2 in the circle.
Emma Darrow led the Georgia Highlands bats in the doubleheader with three hits, including a double and one RBI. Faith Gauthier had two hits on the day.
Joyner (double, two RBI), Mary Catherine Kimball (RBI), Haylee Dishmon (RBI), Abbi Hall, Chloe Fowler, Abbey Yates, and Maci Andrews added one hit.
The doubleheader split leaves Georgia Military with a 16-13 record overall. The Bulldogs are 5-1 in conference play.
The Chargers (20-12, 1-3) travel to South Georgia State for a doubleheader on Friday and will visit East Georgia State for two games on Saturday.
