Chargers split Saturday doubleheader at East Georgia State

The Georgia Highlands College Chargers split a baseball doubleheader at East Georgia State on Saturday. They won the first game 7-3 before losing the second game 9-7.


GHC rolled up seven runs in their first five offensive frames of the opener, and pitchers Andrew Arnold (5.2 IP, 3R, 1ER, 5H, 1BB, 1K) and Nickolaus Kane (1.1 IP, 0R, 2H) limited the Bobcats’ offense.


Kenskey Thomas (double, four RBI) and Ali Banks (two RBI) combined for five hits at the top of the Chargers’ order to pace the offense. Grayson Godbee added two hits and one RBI. Wyatt Gatlin, Tyler Phillips, and Heath Whitlock (double) added one hit for GHC.


The Chargers scored five runs in the top of the first inning of Game 2 and held a 6-5 lead through three innings, but East Georgia State scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added a two-run homer in the fifth en route to a 9-7 win and a doubleheader split.


Braxton Wade (1.1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for the Chargers in relief of starter Kaiden Krak (2.2 IP, 5R, 4ER, 5H, 3BB, 2K). Jackson Greer (1 IP, 2ER, 1H, 1BB, 1K) and Garrett Goblish (1 IP, 0R, 1H) pitched the fifth and sixth innings for GHC.


Thomas stayed hot at the plate with three hits and one RBI. Godbee produced two hits, including a homer and three RBI. Bishop (two RBI), Banks, Whitlock, Ryan Martin, and Joe Johnson added one hit in the loss.


East Georgia State is 17-14 overall and 3-3 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association following Saturday’s split.


The Chargers (24-5, 5-2) play at Andrew College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and will host three more games with the Tigers on Friday and Saturday.
