Chargers lose conference opener at South Georgia State

Georgia Highlands College baseball rallied from a 7-1 deficit on Tuesday in their 2025 conference opener at South Georgia State and briefly grabbed an 8-7 lead. However, the host Hawks plated five runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat the Chargers 12-8.
South Georgia State piled up all 12 runs in two big innings — the fourth and the eighth. GHC scored a single run in the second, six in the sixth, and one more in the top of the seventh inning.
Jack Butler (4 IP, 7R, 6ER, 6H, 0BB, 6K) made the Chargers’ pitching start. William Homan (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 3K) pitched two scoreless innings, and Jackson Greer (2 IP, 5ER, 5H, 0BB, 2K) worked the final two innings and was saddled with the pitching loss.
Ryan Martin (two RBI), Heath Whitlock (double, two RBI), and Kenskey Thomas (double, RBI) had two hits for Georgia Highlands. Ali Banks (RBI), Caden Marcos (RBI), Andrew Bishop, Grayson Godbee (double), and Wyatt Gatlin added one hit.
South Georgia State improved to 12-13 overall and is 1-0 in conference play.
Georgia Highlands (17-4, 0-1) hosts a doubleheader with USC Salkehatchie on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
