The Georgia Highlands College men’s basketball team came from behind to beat South Georgia Tech Wednesday night in Rome, 100-93.
The win extends the Chargers’ streak to four games, putting them at 4-1 in the GCAA and 12-5 overall. They are tied with Gordon State for the number two spot in the conference standings.
Jay’Quan Nelson led the team with 22 points for his second consecutive 20-point game. Marquin Thompson added 21, while Jah’kim Payne had 16 points.
GHC led 46-42 at halftime but found themselves down by ten points with nine minutes remaining in the game. A pair of three-pointers by Payne and Nelson with under two minutes remaining tied it up, and clutch free throws down the stretch sealed the win.
The Chargers visit South Georgia State on Saturday in Waycross. The NJCAA 23rd-ranked Hawks sit atop the conference standings.
