Chargers complete sweep of Monarchs
Georgia Highlands baseball completed a four-game weekend sweep of visiting Macomb College (Michigan) Saturday with a pair of wins over the Monarchs at Pickens High School in Jasper. The Chargers, who won 11-1 and 13-1 on Friday, won 10-0 and 7-5 Saturday to complete the sweep.
Four GHC pitchers combined for the opening game shutout Saturday.
Trippe Moore (4 IP, 0R, 3H, 0BB, 6K), Barrett Eldridge (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1K), Cason Rich (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2K), and Skyler Thellman (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB) all pitched in the shutout.
Austin Slate (double, 2 RBIs), Ryan Wideman, Jay Murdock (double), and CJ Blackwell had two hits each for Georgia Highlands. Hudson Sapp (triple, RBI) and Nic Ferrer (RBI) added one hit each. Chris Buchanan had one RBI.
Macomb led early in the second game 2-0 and held a 5-3 lead through 4-½ innings, but the Chargers completed a come-from-behind victory with four runs over their last two offensive frames.
Georgia Highlands utilized five more pitchers in the second game. Trip DoVale (3 IP, 2ER, 3H, 1K), Ryan Wells (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB), Adrian Roman (1 IP, 3R, 1ER, 3H), Declan Dun (1 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB), and Chandler Anderson (1 IP, 0R, 1H) all toed the rubber for the Chargers.
Wideman (triple, 2 RBIs), Connor Faulkner (2 RBIs), and Slate led the GHC attack with two hits each. Sapp hit a solo home run to lead off the Chargers’ third inning. Ferrer and Blackwell added one hit apiece.
With their losses Saturday, Macomb falls to 1-7 on the season.
Georgia Highlands (20-6) has won 11 of their last 13 games. The Chargers have a doubleheader Monday at Point University and host Roane State for a doubleheader Tuesday.
