Cass soccer opens the '25 campaign with a win

The Cass High School boys’ soccer team kicked off the season Monday night with a 3-1 win at Coahulla Creek in a matchup of two top-ten-ranked teams. The Colonels opened the season as the No. 3 team in Class AAAA and Coahulla Creek is ranked No. 5 in Class AA according to the preseason rankings by ScoreAtlanta.


Cass freshman Anthony Diaz made an immediate impact, opening the scoring nine minutes into the match. Eight minutes later, Mason Madrid doubled the lead with a clinical finish from the penalty spot. Diaz struck again three minutes later, putting the Colonels up 3-0 within the first 20 minutes.


The score remained unchanged until the Colts converted a penalty with ten minutes remaining. 


Cass maintained control after the Coahulla Creek goal for a solid opening night victory.



COAHULLA CREEK 3, CASS GIRLS 0


The Cass girls’ soccer team was shut out in its season opener at Coahulla Creek on Monday.


The Lady Colts led 2-0 at the intermission and added a third goal in the second half to secure the decision.


Cass (0-1) host Rome on Friday in a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.



ALEXANDER 3, CASS BOYS 0


On Tuesday in Douglasville, the Colonels were blanked by Class 5A Alexander, 3-0.  Following a scoreless first half, the Cougars (2-0) scored three times in the second half to hand Cass a road defeat.


Cass (1-1) hosts East Paulding on February 24.
