Cass and Cartersville girls earn region wins

The Cass and Cartersville girls' basketball teams grabbed home region wins Friday night while Adairsville and Woodland dropped contests on the road.
CASS GIRLS 50, CEDARTOWN 47
The Lady Colonels won a back-and-forth tussle with visiting Cedartown Friday night and evened their season record with a 50-47 victory.
Cass led a low-scoring first quarter, 7-3, but the Lady Bulldogs held an 18-16 advantage at the intermission. The Lady Colonels surged ahead 34-27 by the end of the third quarter and held off a late charge by Cedartown in the final quarter.
Anizah Taylor scored 16 of her 17 points in the second half to lead the Cass scoring attack. KK Evans scored 10 points, and Cadie Paez added eight.
Kenzlei Boozer led Cedartown (2-7, 1-3) with 18 points. Asia Ware tossed in 13.
Cass (5-5, 3-1) plays at Unity Christian School on Saturday.
CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 65, HIRAM 33
The Lady Canes raced to a 21-2 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 65-33 home win Friday night over region-foe Hiram.
Cartersville led 34-16 by halftime and extended the lead in the second half.
Kaytlin Arnold scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Hurricanes. Zoe McCurry pitched in 10 and Bayley Stanley nine as Cartersville remained unbeaten in Region 7-4A.
Damariah Windmon scored 16 points for the Lady Hornets (4-8, 3-1).
Cartersville (5-5, 4-0) hosts Allatoona on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 68, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 53
The Lady Tigers led 25-24 at halftime Friday night, but host Northwest Whitfield pulled away in the second half to stay undefeated and earned a 68-53 home win.
The Lady Bruins outscored the Lady Tigers 23-13 in the third quarter to take command.
Sloan Pender poured in 20 points, and Kennedy Baker had 16 for Northwest Whitfield (6-0, 2-0).
NaXyria Roberts scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Olivia O’Tinger finished with eight points.
Adairsville (4-6, 1-2) will host their annual Christmas Clash Tournament on Dec. 27, 28, and 30. The Lady Tigers will face Model in the opening round.
DALTON 69, WOODLAND GIRLS 5
The Dalton girls won their third straight game Friday night and their first at home since a season-opening victory over McEachern with a 69-5 decision over Woodland.
The Lady Catamounts improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Region 7-4A.
Woodland (1-11, 1-3) plays at Cedartown on Tuesday.
