Cartersville soccer teams win at Ringgold; Woodland falls to Bruins

The Cartersville girls’ soccer team built a 4-0 lead by halftime and scored four more goals in the second half to win at Ringgold Monday night, 8-2.
Annabelle Williams opened the scoring for the Lady Canes with an assist credited to Kiley McMichael. Mallory Nicklas followed with back-to-back goals for a 3-0 advantage. Mary Beth Hackney assisted on one of the Nicklas goals.
Freshman Allie Evans scored her first career goal before the break off an assist from Nicklas.
The Tigers narrowed the margin to 4-1 early in the second half, but a quick answer from Hackney gave Cartersville a 5-1 lead.
McMichael scored the Lady Canes’ next two goals off assists from Hackney and Alexis Henderson to make the score 7-1.
Nicklas found the net again, assisted by Hackney for an 8-1 lead, and the Hurricanes conceded a final goal in the 79th minute for an 8-2 final score.
The loss dropped Ringgold to 1-8 on the season.
Cartersville (4-5, 2-2 Region 7-4A) visits Southeast Whitfield on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 2, RINGGOLD 0
Following a scoreless first half, the Hurricanes scored to goals in the second half to win a non-region match Monday night at Ringgold, 2-0.
The loss dropped the host Tigers to 5-4 on the season.
Cartersville (2-5, 0-4) returns to Region 7-4A action on Friday at Southeast Whitfield in a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 7, WOODLAND GIRLS 3
The Northwest Whitfield Lady Bruins won a non-region soccer match at Woodland Monday night, 7-3.
The Woodland girls scored first and only trailed 2-1 at the intermission, but the visiting Bruins scored five goals in 21 minutes to take control.
Sammie Espinoza put the Lady Cats up 1-0 in the 6th minute off an assist from Ansley Burns. Northwest Whitfield answered with goals in the 24th and 30th minutes to lead 2-1 at halftime.
Espinoza opened the second half scoring in the 47th minute off a delivery from Carlie Forman, but the Lady Bruins scored five consecutive goals to lead 7-2.
Burns added a Woodland goal in the 68th minute, with Espinoza providing an assist.
Northwest Whitfield improved to 6-2 on the season.
The Lady Cats (3-6, 2-2) return to Region 7-4A action on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at home against Hiram.
NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 3, WOODLAND BOYS 0
The visiting Bruins improved to 9-0 Monday night with a 3-0 win at Woodland.
Northwest Whitfield led 1-0 at halftime, scoring on a penalty kick.
In the second half, the Bruins scored in the 44th minute and added an insurance goal in the 56th minute off a corner kick to round out the scoring.
The Wildcats (2-7, 0-4 Region 7-4A) host Hiram in a region match on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
