Cartersville, Adairsville begin region series with wins

The Purple Hurricanes scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and added on in each successive frame Tuesday in a 13-3 Region 7-AAAA win over Woodland at Richard Bell Field.
Cartersville added three runs in the second inning, three in the third, and two more in the fourth. The Wildcats plated single runs in the top of the second, fourth, and fifth innings.
Woodland committed five errors and issued eight walks.
Andrew Purdy (4 IP, 2R, 0ER, 5H, 0BB, 7K) made the pitching start for the Canes and collected the win. Maddox Frazier (1 IP, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 1K) pitched the fifth inning for Cartersville.
Austin Daves (1 IP, 5R, 1ER, 3H, 3BB, 1K) started on the mound for Woodland and was charged with the loss. Zaylen Cochran (1 IP, 3R, 0ER, 2H, 2BB), Tucker James (1.2 IP, 5R, 2ER, 6H, 3BB), and Alfredo Romo (0.1 IP) pitched in relief for the Wildcats.
Julez Pratt (double, four RBI) led the Cartersville bats with three hits. Cole Crawford (three RBI), Nolan Elrod (two RBI), and Purdy (triple) produced two hits. David Vargas and Cameron Cochran added one hit. Tristan McKibben (sac fly) and Brayden Logan were credited with one RBI.
Preston Sorrells (double) and Jake Clowers (double) had two hits for Woodland. Lucas Baker (double, RBI), James (RBI), Cochran (RBI), and Romo added one hit.
Woodland (10-8, 4-6) will host Cartersville (12-7, 8-2) in a doubleheader on Friday starting at 5 p.m.
ADAIRSVILLE 9, HERITAGE-CATOOSA 5

The Tigers started fast on Tuesday at Heritage-Catoosa and held on to win the first game of a three-game series with the region-leading Generals, 9-5.
Adairsville had six hits in the top of the first inning and plated seven runs for an early lead. Heritage-Catoosa responded with four runs in the bottom of the first, but got no closer.
The Tigers added single runs in the second and seventh innings. Cohen Fletcher hit a solo home run for the Generals in the fifth inning.
Jack Nelson (6.1 IP, 5ER, 7H, 3BB, 7K) made the pitching start and worked into the seventh inning. Jarrett Scott (0.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB) retired the final two outs to earn a save.
Nelson had three hits and one RBI for the Tigers’ offense. Ethan Long (double, three RBI) and Isaac Burnett (RBI) contributed two hits. Peyton Bowen (RBI), Braxton Ryan, and Scott added one hit.
The loss dropped the Generals to 12-6 overall and 6-1 in Region 7-AAA.
Adairsville (11-6, 6-4) hosts Heritage on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The series will conclude on Friday in Ringgold.

Due to umpire availability, the first game of this week's Cass-Southeast Whitfield series was pushed back to Wednesday.
