Canes, Lady Colonels, punch state tourney tickets with Tuesday night wins

The Cartersville boys' and Cass girls' basketball teams secured their spots in the Class AAAA state tournament on Tuesday night at Allatoona High School by winning in the Region 7-4A Tournament.a

The Hurricanes completed a three-game season sweep of the Cass boys Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Region 7-AAAA Tournament at Allatoona High School.
Close throughout, Cartersville held leads at the end of each period.
The Canes led 12-11 after one quarter, 27-23 at halftime, and 46-39 at the end of the third quarter.
Kyron McClendon scored 25 points to lead Cartersville. Wyatt Thomason followed with 16. Will Bishop contributed nine points, and Nas Bennett added eight.
Xavier Lowe led Cass in the scoring column with 17 points. Dylan Miller finished with 16 points. Parnel Gamble and Jason Brown added eight.
The year for the Colonels comes to a close with an 11-15 record.
Cartersville (15-10) secures a berth in the region semifinals on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Dalton. The win also guarantees a state tournament berth.
CASS GIRLS 59, CEDARTOWN 37

The Lady Colonels built an 11-point lead by halftime, adding to their advantage in the second half for a 59-37 Region 7-AAAA quarterfinal win over Cedartown at Allatoona High School.
Cass led 14-9 after one quarter, 33-22 at the intermission, and 49-34 by the end of the third quarter en route to a 22-point win.
Cadie Paez led three Lady Colonels in double figures with 14 points. Darianna Sosa finished with 12 points, and Kiana McDaniel contributed 10. KK Evans posted nine points, and Yvonne Ellison added eight for Cass.
The season ended for Cedartown with a 10-17 record.
Cass (12-13) advanced to the region semifinals on Thursday at 7 p.m. against top-seeded Cartersville.
NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 51, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 41
The Adairsville Lady Tigers had their season end Tuesday night at Heritage High School in Ringgold with a 51-41 loss to Northwest Whitfield in the quarterfinal round of the Region 7-AAA Tournament.
The Lady Bruins (15-7) advanced to the semifinals on Friday against host Calhoun at 7 p.m.
Adairsville has its season end with an 11-15 record.
