Canes, Colonels, and Tigers pick up softball wins Tuesday.
Cartersville and Cass softball opened Region 7-AAAAA play Tuesday night with wins while Woodland dropped its first region game of the year with Calhoun.
Meanwhile, Adairsville won its fourth straight non-region game with a 10-5 victory over visiting Armuchee.
CARTERSVILLE 13, HIRAM 11
The Lady Canes won an offensive shootout Tuesday night in their first Region 7-5A game of the year, defeating visiting Hiram 13-11.
The two teams combined for 26 hits including eight extra base hits.
Ava Perkins led the way with three hits including a double, a triple, and four RBIs. Elizabeth Nelson was next with three hits. Mikey Lewis (double, three RBIs), Jordan Bishop (two RBIs), and Layne Callan (double, RBI) followed with two hits each. Kiley Arnold finished with a double and one RBI. Reese Dumas contributed a double. Campbell Rogers had one hit and McKinley Chada added a pair of RBIs.
Perkins (3.1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 3BB, 3K) picked up the pitching victory in relief of starter Arnold (3.2 IP, 10R, 6ER, 9H, 1BB, 3K).
CASS 6, DALTON 3
Cass softball opened play in Region 7-5A Tuesday night with a 6-3 win over Dalton at the Cass Athletic Complex.
The Colonels built a 6-0 lead through five innings with a run in the first, three in the third, and two more in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Dalton scored a run in the sixth and added two more in the top of the seventh but Cass pitcher Alexis Woods was able to induce a fly out to end the game.
Ansley Hight had two hits including a two-run home run in the fifth inning. It was her fifth homer in the Lady Colonels’ first six games this season and she finished the night with four RBIs.
Haylee Dishmon (RBI) and Alexis Woods also had two hits each for Cass. Reese Howard, Bailey York, and Olivia Woods added one hit each in the win. Darianna Sosa was credited with one RBI.
Alexis Woods tossed a complete game for the pitching victory. She scattered nine hits and did not surrender a walk. Only two of the three Catamounts runs were earned.
Dalton falls to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in region action.
Cass (4-2, 1-0) plays another Region 7-5A game Thursday at Calhoun. First pitch is scheduled for 5:55 p.m.
ADAIRSVILLE 10, ARMUCHEE 5
The Lady Tigers doubled up visiting Armuchee Tuesday night in Tiger Valley with a 10-5 non-region softball win.
Adairsville totaled 13 hits in the win and produced five extra base hits.
Sophomore Jordan Clay (5.2 IP, 4R, 2ER, 7H, 4BB, 2K) started in the circle and earned the pitching win for the Tigers. Chelsea Bates (1.1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 2K) closed out the final four outs.
McKenzie Pullam led the Adairsville attack with three hits and two RBIs. Brie Patterson doubled, tripled, and drove in a pair of runs. Taylor Evans also had two hits with one RBI. Kelsey Gleason finished with a hit and two RBIs. Jenna Young produced one hit and one RBI. Riley Mounger (double), Alissa Winters, Annalee Morris (triple), and Halle Chason (double) added one hit apiece.
Adairsville (4-2) hosts Cedartown in another non-region game Wednesday at 5 p.m.
CALHOUN 12, WOODLAND 4
Last season, Woodland eliminated Calhoun after both teams qualified for the Final Eight in Class 5A in Columbus. Tuesday night, the visiting Yellow Jackets exacted a bit of revenge with a 12-4 Region 7-5A win over the Lady Cats.
Calhoun (3-1, 1-0) rattled off 20 hits in their win and scored in each of the final five frames after trailing Woodland 2-0 in the early going.
Kamryn Smith had two hits and two RBIs to pace the Lady Cats’ offense. Haley Collum doubled. Peyton Dorn and Bailey Sakacsi added the other Woodland hits.
Collum (4 IP, 7R, 6ER, 12H) was saddled with the pitching loss. Dorn (3 IP, 5ER, 8H, 1BB, 1K) pitched in relief.
Woodland (2-4, 0-1) travels to Hiram Thursday for a 5:55 p.m. region matchup.
