Bartow County Junior Little League defeats East Marietta to stave off elimination at state tourney

Bartow County Junior Little League (14U) baseball defeated East Marietta 8-7 Sunday afternoon in Columbus to stay alive at the 2023 Georgia Little League Junior state tournament.

Bartow, now 1-1 in the double-elimination tournament, advances to a rematch game with Peachtree City Monday at 5 p.m.

Peachtree City beat Bartow 11-5 Saturday in the opening round, then lost to Toccoa Sunday afternoon.

In the Bartow 14U win on Sunday, Zaylen Cochran was 2-for-4 at the plate and also picked up the pitching win with a pair of strikeouts in two innings on the mound. Clayton Wilkes was also 2-for-4 at the plate.

Connor Corbin recorded eight strikeouts and pitched five innings for the locals. Corbin and Nick Robinson were 1-for-3 on offense.

Monday’s Bartow/Peachtree City winner will play the Athens/Toccoa loser Tuesday night in another elimination game.
