August 2020 Elite Athletes of the Month
Elite Stone Supply, in conjunction with WBHF and Bartow Sports Zone, presents the ELITE ATHLETES OF THE MONTH. Each month, local high schools are provided opportunity to name an Elite Athlete of the Month from their varsity programs and present the information on their honoree through Bartow Sports Zone and on 100.3FM and AM1450, WBHF in Cartersville.
Recipients for August 2020: McKinley Chada -- Cartersville HS Brentley Durham -- Adairsville HS
Michiah Hicks -- Woodland HS
Rachael Lee -- Cass HS
The Elite Athlete of the Month representing Cartersville High School for August 2020 in McKinley Chada. A sophomore pitcher and first baseman for the Lady Canes’ softball team, Chada has a 2.71 ERA in her first five starts with eight strikeouts. She picked up her first win of the year with a complete game effort against Denmark.
“McKinley has done an excellent job in the circle this season,” said Cartersville head softball coach Shannon Suarez. “She has worked out of jams with minimal damage and induced key outs when they were needed most.”
Chada carries a 4.1 GPA as an honor student and also plays travel softball. She plans to be a pre-med major in college.
She is the daughter of Erich and Kristen Chada.
Brentley Durham is the August 2020 Elite Athlete of the Month for Adairsville High School.
A senior and right side hitter for the Tigers’ volleyball team, Durham also serves as the team captain.
“Brentley is the kind of player a coach would want to keep on the team forever,” said Adairsville volleyball coach Kailey Martin. “She has integrity, passion, and determination. Mature beyond her years, Brentley is extremely dependable. She sets goals for herself and I love the look on her face when she blocks her target. She is a joy to watch on the court and I’m confident she will conquer the outside world after high school.” The daughter of Brent and Mandi Durham is also an outstanding student. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA while taking Honors, Advanced Placement, and college dual enrolled classes. She plans to attend Florida State University and aspires to earn her Ph.D. in marine biology to conduct marine research. “Brentley is a tremendous student,” Adairsville Spanish teacher Kaylie Noe commented. “She always puts her best foot forward and gives her best in every class she takes. She is a natural in my Spanish classes and her willingness to participate and put herself out there never ceases to amaze me. She has a bright future.”
Woodland High School’s August 2020 Elite Athlete of the Month is Michiah Hicks.
“Michiah has really started hot this season,” said Lady Cats’ head softball coach Colman Roberts. “She has worked extremely hard over the past two years and it has paid off. She currently leads the team in hitting and brings left-handed power and speed to our lineup.” A junior center fielder on the Woodland softball team, Hicks is also a member of the track and field team.
She is the daughter of Guss and Star Hicks and carries a 3.47 GPA. She plans to continue her college softball career in college while majoring in computer science.
The August 2020 Elite Athlete of the Month representing Cass High School is Rachael Lee.
The daughter of Randy and Kim Lee, Rachael has been a three-year starter for the Lady Colonels softball team and has excelled each season.
This year she is off to a great start with a .429 batting average with nine RBIs. She sees time as both a pitcher and a catcher for the Lady Colonels.
The coaching staff credits Lee for having a great attitude and for representing the Colonel Family extremely well both on and off the field.
