Athletes Beyond Bartow: MiLB schedules reach final stretch

The MiLB regular season heads into its final three weeks of 2024 just as Fall collegiate sports get started.

MASON BARNETT — Midland RockHounds (3rd-yr. pro; Oakland A’s Double-A affiliate; Texas League; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … received no decision in a five-inning home start last Wednesday against the Wichita Wind Surge. He allowed six earned runs on seven hits, one hit batsman, and three walks with four strikeouts. Barnett left with the game tied 6-6 but the RockHounds rallied to win 11-10 in eleven innings. For the season, the 23-year-old is 7-7 with a 4.62 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 133-⅔ innings. Midland (69-50 overall) has a 29-21 record in the Texas League’s second half and leads the South Division. The ‘Hounds play six games this week at the San Antonio Missions.


LOGAN MARTIN — Columbia Fireflies (2nd-yr. pro; Kansas City Royals Single-A affiliate; Carolina League; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … made a five-inning pitching start on Sunday evening at home with no decision against the Fredericksburg Nationals. The right-handed hurler allowed three earned runs on five hits and one walk. He fanned four.  Fredericksburg won the game in 10 innings, 7-6. Martin has a 3-3 record this season in 22 appearances including 14 starts. He also has three saves in relief stints. Martin has a 4.10 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched. The Fireflies (63-53 overall) are 28-23 in the Carolina League’s second-half standings and trail the Charleston RiverDogs by three games. Columbia plays seven games this week at the Augusta GreenJackets.


ANTHONY SEIGLER — Somerset Patriots (7th-yr. pro; NY Yankees Double-A affiliate; Eastern League; Cartersville HS) …  saw action in each game this past week at the Portland Sea Dogs as the Patriots won four of six. Seigler was 8-for-20 at the plate with six walks, four doubles, three RBI, and four runs scored. He also stole four bases. The second baseman’s batting average is .228 in just over 300 official at-bats. He has 11 homers and 41 RBI with an on-base percentage of .343. The 25-year-old has 24 stolen bases. Somerset  (61-57 overall) is 29-20 in the Eastern League’s second-half standings and trails Portland in the Northeast Division by three games. The Patriots host the Reading Fightin’ Phils for a six-game series this week.



PGA CHAMPIONS TOUR


JASON BOHN — Champions Senior Tour (Acworth, 51, 33-yr. pro; Cartersville CC member)  … shot 74-70-77 — 221 (5-over) this past weekend and tied for 70th place at The Ally Challenge in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Stewart Cink (17-under) held off K.J. Choi and Mike Weir to win the senior tour event. The next event on the PGA Champions Tour is the Axcension Charity Classic in St. Louis on September 6-8.



COLLEGE SOCCER


ABBEY CRAIG — Reinhard University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … logged 81 minutes in a 2-0 home loss to Cumberlands (KY) last Wednesday and 90 minutes in a 1-0 home loss to Life University on Saturday. Reinhardt (0-2) will face Rocky Mountain (MT) on Sunday in Lawrenceville.
