Athletes Beyond Bartow: MiLB schedules open as collegiate spring sports hit mid-season stride

The Minor League Baseball schedule kicked off this past weekend, while collegiate softball and baseball schedules are reaching the middle of their conference races.


This week's report also includes updates on basketball, track and field, golf, and tennis for the week ending March 30.



MiLB


MASON BARNETT — Las Vegas Aviators (Oakland A’s Triple-A affiliate; 4th-year pro; age 24; Auburn; Cartersville HS) … made a 2-⅔ innings start with no decision last Saturday in a 10-3 home win over the Reno Aces. He allowed one earned run on two hits and six walks while striking out three. The Aviators won two of three games in their season-opening series with Reno. Las Vegas hosts a six-game series with the Sacramento River Cats on Tuesday through Sunday.


LOGAN MARTIN — Columbia Fireflies (Kansas City Royals Single-A affiliate; 3rd-year pro; age 23; Kentucky; Cartersville HS) … Martin returns to the Fireflies pitching staff to begin the 2025 season. The Carolina League schedule starts Friday with a three-game series for the Fireflies at the Augusta Greenjackets.


ANTHONY SEIGLER — Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers Triple-A affiliate; 8th-year pro; age 25; Cartersville HS) … made a start at catcher this past Saturday in an 11-3 home loss to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and a start at second base on Sunday in a 2-1 loss. Seigler was 0-for-5 at the plate with two walks and one RBI. Defensively, he picked off a baserunner at second base in Saturday’s game. The Sounds lost two of three games with Jacksonville over the weekend. They play a six-game series at the Gwinnett Stripers on Tuesday through Sunday.



PRO BASKETBALL CHINA CBA

ASHTON HAGANS — Xinjiang Flying Tigers (6th yr. pro; Cartersville native; University of Kentucky; Newton HS) … scored seven points with nine assists, seven rebounds, and one steal in a 104-98 win last week over Shanghai. The Flying Tigers (31-14) are in fourth place in the 20-team league. Their final regular season game is Monday night when they host the Beijing Royal Fighters.




BASEBALL

DREW BILLINGS — Trinity Baptist College (Jr., Woodland HS) … made two relief appearances this past Saturday in a home doubleheader sweep of Toccoa Falls College. Billings totaled six innings on the mound and was credited with a save in a 7-4 win. He did not allow a run on two hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in the two outings. The Eagles (16-12, 7-2 NCCAA) host Paine College (GA) for three games on Friday and Saturday.


CURT BONNER — LaGrange College (Jr., Cartersville HS) … in four road starts last week — one at Berry College and three at Centre College (KY) — Bonner was 6-for-16, including two homers, one walk, one hit by pitch, three runs scored, and five RBI. The Panthers (13-13, 5-1 Collegiate Conference of the South) lost all four non-conference games last week. They will host Belhaven University (MS) for a three-game conference series on Friday and Saturday.


HARRISON CHILDERS — Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (So., Cartersville HS) … went 4-for-10, including one double, one triple, and one walk as the Stallions dropped two of three games last Friday and Saturday at home to Middle Georgia State. He also scored two runs. ABAC (22-11, 12-9 Southern States Athletic Conference) visits the University of Tennessee Southern for a conference series on Friday and Saturday.


CALEB DANIEL — Georgia Tech (Fr., Cartersville HS) … the Yellow Jackets’ left fielder went 3-for-13 last week in four starts. Georgia Tech won at Kennesaw State but dropped two of three at home to Clemson. Daniel hit one home run and had two doubles. He walked four times, scored four runs, was hit by a pitch, and drove in three. Georgia Tech (22-6, 8-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) hosts Mercer University on Tuesday and plays a three-game ACC series at Stanford on Friday through Sunday.


MICAH EARWOOD — Southeastern University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … made a relief appearance this past Saturday in a 7-6 loss at New College of Florida. Both batters Earwood faced reached base — one by walk and the other was hit by a pitch. The Fire (28-6, 7-5 The Sun Conference) hosts Florida Memorial University in a four-game series on Thursday through Saturday.


RYAN FARR — Kentucky Christian University (Fr., Adairsville HS) … pitched one inning of relief this past Saturday in a 14-4 loss at Bryan College (TN). He allowed three earned runs on two hits and three walks in the sixth inning. The Crusaders (12-19, 2-16 Appalachian Athletic Conference) visit Campbellsville University (KY) on Tuesday and will host Union Commonwealth University for three games on Friday and Saturday.


GEOFFREY GORE — Bevill State CC (Fr., Cartersville HS) … made pitching appearances last Thursday and Saturday with no decision in a home-and-home series with Wallace State-Selma CC. Gore allowed two earned runs on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts in an 18-10 win. He yielded no runs on one hit and three walks with one strikeout on Saturday in a 5-4 loss. The Bears (18-17, 15-9 NJCAA D2 Region 22) play a doubleheader at Motlow State CC on Tuesday, host two games with Enterprise State CC on Thursday, and visit Enterprise State for a doubleheader on Saturday.

COLT McKIBBEN — Lee University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … was the winning pitcher in a four-inning start at home against the University of Montevallo. He allowed one unearned run on four hits, one walk, and one hit by pitch while fanning four in a 3-1 victory. McKibben’s record this season improved to 4-0. The Flames (20-14, 12-9 Gulf South Conference) have won seven straight and will host a three-game conference series with the University of West Florida on Friday and Saturday.


SAM MELTON — Guilford College (Jr., Cartersville HS) … pitched two scoreless innings with no decision this past Saturday in a 14-7 home loss to Washington and Lee University. Melton did not allow a hit. He walked two and struck out one of eight batters. The Quakers (14-8, 3-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) host Methodist University (NC) on Tuesday and Roanoke College on Wednesday before playing a doubleheader at Shenandoah University (VA) on Saturday.


LUKE MILLER — Columbus State University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … in four starts and four wins last week, Miller was 6-for-14 with one home run, two doubles, one sac fly, five walks, and four RBI. The Cougars beat Auburn University Montgomery at home and won three games at USC Beaufort. CSU (16-15, 7-8 Peach Belt Conference) visits Albany State University on Wednesday and will host Augusta University for three games on Friday through Sunday.


PEARSE MULLINAX — Toccoa Falls College (Fr., Cartersville HS) … made a 2-⅔ innings pitching start March 26 in an 11-5 home win over Claflin University. He allowed three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four. Mullinax has pitched 9-⅓ innings this season with an 11.57 ERA, eight strikeouts, and a 1-0 record for the Screaming Eagles. TFC (15-17, 1-2 NCCAA South Region) hosts Columbia International University (SC) on Tuesday and Bob Jones University (SC) for three games on Friday and Saturday.


AYDEN RAY — USC Lancaster (Fr., Woodland HS) … walked in a pinch-hitting role last Friday as the Lancers beat USC Salkehatchee 15-14. USC Lancaster (17-18, 10-8 NJCAA Region 10) plays a three-game series at Florence-Darlington Tech on Saturday and Sunday.


HANK SMITH — University of West Georgia (R-So., Cartersville HS) … made a catching start on Saturday and appeared as a pinch-hitter and defensively on Friday in home games this past weekend against Stetson University. He was 1-for-6 at the plate, including one walk and one RBI in two losses. The Wolves (13-13, 4-5 Atlantic Sun Conference) have a three-game conference series at North Florida on Friday through Sunday.


SCOTTY SMITH — Covenant College (Sr., Woodland HS) … made a six-inning pitching start last Friday in a 4-0 loss at Belhaven University (MS). He allowed two runs (one earned)  on eight hits and one walk while striking out five. Now 3-1, it was Smith’s first loss. The Scots (12-12, 2-7 Collegiate Conference of the South) visit Sewanee (TN) on Tuesday and will host Piedmont University for three conference games on Thursday through Saturday.


PRESTON WELCHEL — Cumberland University (Sr., Cartersville HS) … in a home loss to Bryan College (TN) and three road wins at Georgetown College (KY), Welchel went 8-for-15 at the plate, including one triple, four walks, one sacrifice fly, six runs scored, and four RBI. He was also hit by a pitch twice. The Phoenix (27-8-1, 7-2 Mid-South Conference) visits 19th-ranked Johnson University (TN) on Tuesday and hosts Campbellsville University (KY) for three games on Friday and Saturday.


DAVIS WILLIAMS — University of West Georgia (R-So., Cartersville HS) … made a pair of one-inning relief appearances last week at the University of Georgia and home against Stetson University. He received no decision in either appearance. He issued one walk but otherwise retired the side in the sixth inning at Georgia in a 13-6 loss. Against Stetson, he allowed three earned runs on one walk, two hit batsmen, and one hit in the eighth inning of an 11-2 loss. The Wolves (13-13, 4-5 Atlantic Sun Conference) play three conference games at the University of North Florida on Friday through Sunday.

SAWYER WILSON — Columbus State University (Fr., Cartersville HS) … made a four-inning relief appearance last Friday at USC Beaufort and picked up his first collegiate pitching victory. He entered in the fifth inning with the Cougars trailing 8-3 and shut out the Sand Sharks for four innings on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts. CSU rallied over the final three innings to win 13-8. Columbus State (16-15, 7-8 Peach Belt Conference) entertains Albany State University on Wednesday and will host Augusta University for three conference games on Friday through Sunday.



SOFTBALL


KILEY ARNOLD — Shorter University (So., Cartersville HS) … in doubleheaders last week at Erskine College and home versus Lees-McRae College and Young Harris College, she was 3-for-15 at the plate, including one walk, one sac fly, one run scored, and two RBI. Arnold also stole one base. The Hawks (8-23, 5-9 Carolinas Conference) have league doubleheaders on Tuesday at Southern Wesleyan University (SC) and Young Harris College on Friday.


HAYLEE DISHMON — Georgia Highlands College (So., Cass HS) … in road games at South Georgia State and East Georgia State last Friday and Saturday, she was 2-for-8, including one double, one RBI, and three runs scored. The Chargers (24-12, 3-3) host Andrew College in a conference doubleheader on Saturday.


PEYTON DORN — Brewton-Parker College (Fr., Woodland HS) … entered in relief in the fourth inning and retired five outs before exiting the circle. Dorn allowed four earned runs on four hits and one walk with no decision in an 11-0 home loss to William Carey University (MS) last Saturday. The Barons (12-17-1, 6-8 Southern States Athletic Conference) play conference road doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday at Blue Mountain Christian University (MS) and the University of Tennessee Southern.

MEGAN GREGORY — Campbell University (So., Adairsville HS) … started and pitched all seven innings in a 4-0 home loss to Hofstra University last Friday. She allowed four earned runs on six hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. Gregory also closed out a 5-3 win over Hofstra on Sunday with three shutout innings. She allowed one hit, no walks, and struck out four as the Camels salvaged one victory in a three-game series. Campbell (23-10, 9-3 Coastal Athletic Association) hosts Radford University (VA) on Tuesday before visiting Monmouth University (NJ) for conference games on Friday through Sunday.


ANSLEY HIGHT — Reinhardt University (So., Cass HS) … went 2-for-7, including one double with two RBI in a doubleheader split March 26 at Tennessee Wesleyan University. The Eagles (16-8, 13-5 Appalachian Athletic Conference) visit Truett-McConnell on Tuesday for a conference doubleheader before hosting AAC doubleheaders with Bluefield University (VA) on Thursday and Columbia College (SC) on Saturday.


ALYSSA JARRETT — Piedmont University (So., Adairsville HS) … in a home start and 9-1 win over Centre College on March 26, she was 0-for-2 at the plate. Jarrett also made a defensive appearance last Saturday at Covenant College in an 11-0 win. The Lions (19-9, 8-0 Collegiate Conference of the South) have won 12 straight and visit Berry College on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader before hosting conference foe Belhaven University (MS) for two games on Friday.


SADYE JOHNSON — University of North Georgia (Sr., Adairsville HS) … drew a walk in a pinch-hitting appearance and an 8-2 home win over Alabama-Huntsville on March 26. The 9th-ranked Nighthawks (28-7, 10-2 Peach Belt Conference) host 5th-ranked Auburn University Montgomery for two games on Monday, travel to 17th-ranked Tusculum University for a doubleheader on Wednesday, and host a three-game conference series with Georgia College on Friday and Saturday.


ERYN LEE — Reinhardt University (Jr., Cass HS) … went 1-for-9 in a doubleheader split March 26 at Tennessee Wesleyan University. She scored one run. RACHAEL LEE — Valdosta State University (Jr., Cass HS) … in a doubleheader split at Georgia Southwestern University March 25 and a three-game series with Mississippi College this past weekend, Lee was 6-for-14, including one home run, one double, one walk, one hit by pitch, five runs scored with four RBI. The Blazers (20-13, 15-5 Gulf South Conference) host a non-conference doubleheader with Columbus State University on Wednesday and visit 5th-ranked Auburn University Montgomery for a three-game conference series on Saturday and Sunday.


AVA PERKINS — Lee University (So, Cartersville HS) … In five home starts last week, Perkins was 3-for-12 as the Flames split a doubleheader with Young Harris College and dropped two of three to the University of Montevallo (AL). She walked four times and was hit by a pitch. She scored two runs and stole two bases. Lee (19-17, 6-14 Gulf South Conference) hosts the University of West Florida for three conference games on Friday and Saturday.

ALEXIS WOODS — Tennessee State University (So., Cass HS) … went 7-for-12 at the plate in a March 26 win at Lipscomb University and three home wins over Morehead State University last Saturday and Sunday. Woods produced three RBI, scored five runs, and stole three bases. The Tigers (18-9, 8-3 Ohio Valley Conference) host Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday and play a three-game conference series at Western Illinois on Saturday and Sunday.




TENNIS

EMILY BUSH — University of North Georgia (Jr., Cartersville HS) … partnered with teammate Linn Goerdes to win 6-0 at Line 2 doubles on March 24 at Tusculum University. She led 6-2, 5-2 at Line 5 singles when the team match concluded. This past Saturday, Bush lost her Line 5 singles match 4-6, 3-6 to her Flagler College opponent and was trailing 4-5 with Goerdes at Line 2 doubles when the match concluded. UNG (10-6, 1-1 Peach Belt Conference) visits Lander University on Friday.


BRYCE VAN ORDER — Piedmont University (Grad student, Woodland HS) … won his Line 4 singles match 6-3, 6-4 last Friday in a 5-2 team loss at Covenant College. On Saturday, he also lost a Line 2 singles match 0-6, 2-6 in a 7-0 loss at 29th-ranked Sewanee (TN). On March 25, Van Order dropped a three-set decision 6-2, 2-6, 1-6 at Line 4 singles in a 7-0 team loss to Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. The Lions (10-8, 3-1 Collegiate Conference of the South) host Asbury University (KY) on Saturday.



TRACK AND FIELD


HAYDEN CAGLE — Berry College (Sr., Cartersville HS) … was 27th in the javelin throw (98-7) this past weekend at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Invitational. The Vikings will compete in the Emory Twilight on Friday and at the University of West Georgia on Saturday.


JUNE DELAUDER — Reinhardt University (Fr., Cass HS) … finished 19th (17.63) in the 100-meter hurdles this past weekend at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Invitational in Atlanta. The Eagles will participate in the Emory Dooley Invitational on Friday.


ANDY FORSYTH—Berry College (Fr., Woodland HS) … placed 25th (1:58.03) in the 800-meter run this past weekend at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Invitational. The Vikings return to Emory for the Twilight Invitational on Friday and compete at the University of West Georgia on Saturday.


ERIC TOVIAVE — Belmont University (Jr., Cartersville HS) … finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.42) and 400-meter hurdles (56.44) at the Western Kentucky University Hilltopper Relays last Friday and Saturday. The Bruins head to Ole Miss for the Joe Walker Invitational on Friday and Saturday.



GOLF

BUCK BRUMLOW — University of Georgia (Sr., Cartersville HS) … fired rounds of 72-73-74 and tied for 33rd last Thursday through Saturday at The Goodwin Invitational hosted by Stanford University on the Stanford Golf Course. The Bulldogs (14-over) tied for eleventh of 30 teams. UCLA (11-under) won the tournament, followed by Colorado (2-under) and Northwestern (1-under). Next for Georgia is The Ford Collegiate hosted by Georgia Southern at The Ford Field & River Club in Richmond Hill.

BRODY TIDWELL — Georgia State University (So., Cartersville HS) … carded rounds of 71-73-75 and tied for 29th March 24-25 at the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate at Cape Fear Country Club in Wilmington, North Carolina. The Panthers finished fifth behind host UNC Wilmington, James Madison, Stetson, and Florida Atlantic in the 13-team field. Georgia State is scheduled for the Golfweek AGT Invitational at True Blue Plantation in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, Monday through Wednesday.
