Hoops roundup: Tigers win region opener, other local teams fall
The Adairsville boys were the only local team to come away with a win Tuesday night in high school basketball action. The Tigers took down visiting Ringgold to improve to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in Region 6-AAA. The Adairsville girls, both Woodland teams, both Cass teams, and the Excel Christian boys all suffered losses.
Adairsville boys 61, Ringgold 40
The Tigers led 13-7 after one quarter, 28-13 at the intermission, and 45-29 through three quarters on their way to a 21-point win.
Gaven Crunkleton led Adairsville with 18 points. T.J. Printup followed with 13. Savaun Henderson, Diego Perez, and Jaxon Welchel added six points each.
O’Reilly Matthews led Ringgold with 14 points. Tyler Camp added seven.
With their loss, Ringgold is now 1-3 overall and 0-1 in Region 6-AAA.
Adairsville travels to North Murray Friday and plays at Temple Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
Ringgold 72, Adairsville girls 29
Class AAA ninth-ranked Ringgold raced to a 15-4 lead after one quarter and led 37-6 at halftime on their way to a 72-29 Region 6-AAA win Tuesday night at Adairsville.
Shelby Cole led Ringgold (2-2, 1-0) with 11 points. Rachel Akers, Sydney Pittman, and Rachel Lopez also reached double figures with 10 points each. Haley Stiles scored eight for Adairsville. Makayla Wade added six points.
Adairsville (1-3, 0-1) travels to North Murray Friday for a 7 p.m. start and plays at Temple Saturday at 3 p.m.
East Paulding 62, Woodland girls 31
The host Raiders led Woodland 17-3 after one quarter and 33-11 at halftime on their way to a 31-point Region 7-AAAAA victory Tuesday night. Lucy Stewart led all scorers with 15 and Faith Lovejoy followed with 10 points for East Paulding.
Jordan Thompson and Abigale Taylor led the Lady Cats with nine and eight points, respectively.
East Paulding improved to 2-3 on the season and 1-1 in Region 7-AAAAA with their win.
The Lady Cats (0-3, 0-1) play at Rome Friday at 7 p.m.
East Paulding 83, Woodland boys 40
East Paulding improved to 4-1 for the season and is now 2-0 in Region 7-AAAAA.
Woodland (1-2, 0-1) plays at Rome Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Paideia 62, Excel Christian Academy boys 51
The Excel Christian Academy boys trailed 18-13 after one quarter and were down 32-25 at halftime Tuesday night in Atlanta as they took on Paideia. The Eagles trailed by eight points after three quarters, 43-35, before falling by nine points.
Amien Hicks and Micah Eisen led the Pythons with 17 points apiece.
Rayshawn Womack had a game-high 18 points for Excel. Kahlil Holley followed with 17.
With their victory, the Paideia improved to 2-5 for the season.
Excel (0-3) hosts Stratford Academy Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Kell 69, Cass boys 55
A rough second quarter for Cass saw the host Longhorns, currently ranked 4th in Class AAAAA, outscore the Colonels 21-5 Tuesday night as Kell won 69-55.
The Longhorns led 19-15 after one quarter and extended their lead to 40-20 at halftime. Kell led 56-36 after three quarters.
“We have a lot to clean up,” said Colonels head coach Sean Glaze. “We committed 23 turnovers tonight, but love our guys and know we will be better.”
C.J. Pipkin led Cass with 15 points. Jordan Ford scored nine. Zaylan Chaney and Braxton Benham added seven points each.
Kell 70, Cass girls 38
Kell improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAAAA.
Cass (3-1, 0-1) hosts Paulding County Friday night at 6 p.m. and East Paulding Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
