Five Bartow County recreation soccer teams advance to GRPA state tourney this weekend

The Bartow County Parks and Recreation Department will have five teams playing in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) State Tournament this weekend.

The two Bartow County U8 teams, U10 Girls, U12 Girls, and U12 Boys have all qualified for the GRPA State Tournament.

The Bartow U8 Rogers team and the U8 Castro teams fell to Dalton I in district action, but will still advance to the state championship tournament. U8 Castro finished tied in regulation with Dalton I and remained tied through two overtime periods before falling in a penalty kick shootout, 4-3.

U8 Rogers leads off with the host team Dalton II Friday at 6:15 pm at The Ronnie Nix Complex in Dalton. U8 Castro gets the winner of Friday's contest, Saturday at 12:30 pm at The Nix Complex.

The U10 Girls finished as GRPA District 5 Runner-up and qualified for the state tournament. In District play Bartow U10 went 1-1, losing to Calhoun 6-1 and defeating Dalton 4-0.

Bartow U10 Girls will play Saturday morning at 11:15 am at The Broddas/Durkan Complex in Dalton against District 6 Champion Walton County.

The U12 Girls won their District 5 tournament by defeating Calhoun 3-0, and defeating Dalton 11-1. Bartow U12 Girls begin their state tournament action Friday at 7:30 pm at The Broddas/Durkan Complex against District 6 Champion Walton County.

The U12 Boys won their District 5 tournament with a 7-1 win over Dalton, but fell to Rome 3-0. In the pool play format, all three teams finished with one win and one loss, Bartow won the tie breaker on goal differential. The U12 Boys team is the first boys soccer representing Bartow County to win district win in five years. Bartow awaits the winner of Dalton and Walton County, Saturday morning at 11:15 am at the Nix Complex in Dalton.
