Model holds off Lady Canes
The Cartersville girls held a first half lead Saturday at Model, but the host Blue Devils knocked down nine three-pointers and outscored Cartersville 42-19 in the second and third quarters combined to defeat the Lady Canes 65-56.
Cartersville led 15-10 after the first eight minutes before Model took a four-point lead at halftime with a 19-point second quarter. The Blue Devils then extended their advantage to 52-34 after three quarters.
Cartersville outscored Model 22-13 in the final period, but it wasn’t enough for the comeback. "We played well in the first and fourth quarters," said Cartersville head coach Cindy Moore. "Their (Model's) three-point shooting made the difference."
Madison Harper and Montana Moats led Model with 20 points apiece. Brooke Roberts added eight for the Blue Devils. Lehla Thomas paced Cartersville with 20 points and seven rebounds. Arianna Cochran followed with 14 points. Cio Seigler scored six points. Naijah Evans was next with five. Lexi Henderson and Jada Cunningham contributed four points each. Jakaya Draughn scored two points and Kierra Milline added one.
Model improved to 2-3 on the season with the win.
Cartersville (1-1) hosts Pepperell Saturday at 12 noon at the Storm Center.
