Wildcats win hoops opener
The Woodland boys basketball team won its season opener Monday night and gave new head coach Jacob Selman a victory in his debut with a 57-53 come-from-behind win over Gordon Central in Thanksgiving Tournament action in Calhoun.
Woodland trailed by five points at the intermission, but outdistanced the host Warriors in the second half. Freshman K.J. Rogers scored 17 points and Jaden Johnson added 16 for the Wildcats. Jordon Barker followed with 14 points.
Woodland (1-0) plays LaFayette Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Gordon Central.
GORDON CENTRAL 45, WOODLAND GIRLS 27
Gordon Central led 12-10 after one quarter, 20-17 at halftime, and 32-20 after three quarters on the Lady Warriors way to an 18-point win. Woodland’s Jordan Thomspon made three, 3-pointers. Carli Clymer scored seven points in the second quarter, and Gracie Styles finished with eight points.
Woodland squares off with Lafayette Tuesday at 4 p.m.
