Colonels pull away in third period for third straight win
The Cass boys utilized a 25-point third quarter Monday night to ease away from Fort Payne (AL) and completed a 3-0 trip to the Chattooga Thanksgiving Classic in Summerville with an 84-73 victory. Cass had wins over Northwest Whitfield last Thursday and the host Chattooga Indians Saturday to go with Monday's win. Monday night, the Colonels led 27-21 after one period, but the Wildcats tied the game at halftime, 41-41. Cass outscored Fort Payne 25-12 in the third quarter to take a 66-53 lead and held on for an 11-point win.
Jacob Hendricks paced all scorers in the game and led Fort Payne with 30 points. Nate Crane had 18 and Lane White 13 for the Wildcats. Cass had four players reach double figures in scoring. Jordan Ford led with 22 points. C.J. Pipkin followed with 17. Braxton Benham scored 15 and Trey Scott contributed 11 points. Ethan McIntyre posted seven points. Jaquan Heard scored six. Zaylan Chaney and Andrew Glaze added four and two points, respectively.
The loss dropped Fort Payne to 0-7 on the season. Cass (4-2) begins Region 7-AAAAA action December 3 at Kell.
MT. PARAN CHRISTIAN BOYS 55, ADAIRSVILLE 29
The Adairsville boys basketball team dropped its season opener Saturday at Mount Paran Christian School 55-29. The host Eagles improved to 3-0 on the season.
Adairsville (0-1) plays Saturday at Southeast Whitfield.
