Canes well represented on All-Region 5-AAAA team


Cartersville football had the most representatives on the All-Region 5-AAAA Team released Wednesday. The Canes had eight first-team members which was the most of any team in the region. Sandy Creek and Troup followed with seven each. Cedartown running back and Clemson University commit Kobe Pryor was named Player of the Year. Sandy Creek quarterback Matt Williams was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year, Central-Carroll linebacker and Chapel Hill defensive end Bradyn Swinson were picked as Co-Defensive Players of the Year. Cartersville wide receiver and cornerback Devonte Ross was selected as one of the best two-way players and received the Ironman Award. Ross shared the award with Brian Branch of Sandy Creek. The Special Teams Player of the Year was Central-Carroll’s C.K. Miller.


Other Hurricanes recognized include: quarterback Tee Webb, receiver Sam Phillips, and offensive linemen Jonah Gambill and Matthew Surrett.


Defensive lineman La’Kwayme Jupiter, linebacker Amarai Orr and defensive back Evan Slocum were named first-team all-region defense.


Receiving second team recognition for Cartersville were receiver Kyler Johnson, offensive lineman Blake Woods, linebacker Jadon Martin, and defensive backs Marquail Coaxum and Marko Dudley. Kicker Oscar Hernandez was also selected to second team honors.


Cartersville honorable mention honorees were defensive linemen Jesse Grogan and Omari Bailey, plus linebackers Harrison Allen and Gavin Geros.
