Trapheagen named Runner of the Year; Evans named All-State
The Georgia Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association along with the Atlanta Track Club recently announced the 2019 Team Georgia selections. Woodland High School’s McKenna Trapheagen, who won back-to-back Class AAAAA individual state championships, was selected as the Girls Runner of the Year in Georgia.
The team was selected by a committee of coaches from the Coaches Association who reviewed each athlete’s season performances including the state meet, head-to-head competition, and consistency throughout the season. Fifteen girls and fifteen boys were selected along with alternates. The Team Georgia runners will represent the state of Georgia at the Footlocker South Regional in Charlotte. Trapheagen and Lady Cats’ teammate Rylee Evans were also named Georgia Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-State team members for Class AAAAA.
The two Woodland runners helped lead the Lady Cats to a Region 7-AAAAA championship and a Class AAAAA state runner-up finish in 2019.
Over the course of her high school career, Trapheagen, who is expected to sign her National Letter of Intent with Georgia Tech Wednesday, helped Woodland win two state championships (2016, 2018) and finish runner-up twice (2017, 2019).
