Lady Cats defeat Cass; Cartersville collects region win


Woodland pitcher Lainey Baker was touched for an unearned run by visiting Cass Tuesday night, but she locked down the Lady Colonels from that point forward tossing a two-hitter in a 6-1 Region 7-AAAAA win. The Wildcats win also completed a two-game, series sweep of the Colonels this season.


Baker struck out nine while yielding only two hits and three walks to Cass. She struck out nine.


Kendyl Hardin had two hits including a solo home run. Ansley Evans also finished with two hits and drove in one run. Bella Carnes, Morgan Bailey (RBI), Hannah Miller (RBI-double), Cassie Jones (RBI), Kailey Baker, and Dylynn Motes (double, RBI).


Alexis Woods had a double for the Cass offense. Kylee Hembree had the only other Lady Colonels’ base hit.


Rachael Lee (6 IP, 6R, 4ER, 10H, 1BB, 0K) took the pitching loss for Cass.


Cass (10-12, 5-7) hosts Hiram Thursday.


Woodland (10-10, 7-4) is currently third in the region standings and plays at Villa Rica Thursday.




LADY CANES TAKE REGION WIN


The Cartersville Lady Canes were out hit by visiting Chapel Hill Tuesday night, but scored two runs in each of their last three frames to defeat the Panthers, 6-4.


Kiley Arnold (7 IP, 4R, 2ER, 8H, 2BB, 3K) earned the Canes’ pitching win with a complete game effort.


Cartersville trailed twice. The visiting Panthers led 1-0 going to the bottom of the fourth and took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning. The Lady Canes went back ahead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Chapel Hill out hit the Hurricanes eight to five, but Cartersville had the better number where it mattered.


Campbell Rogers had two hits for the Canes. McKinley Chada had one hit and two RBI. Lauren McElhaney contributed a hit and one RBI. Arnold had the other hit for Cartersville.


The loss leaves Chapel Hill with a 5-18 record overall and a 5-6 mark in Region 5-AAAA. Cartersville (11-11, 6-6) hosts Darlington next Monday.
