Colonels conclude season with loss at Carrollton
The Cass baseball team wrapped up its 2019 season Friday night with a 10-5 loss at 8th-ranked Carrollton.
The Colonels and Trojans traded runs early with Carrollton scoring four times in the bottom of the first and Cass responding with three in the next inning.
Carrollton again extended their lead to 7-3 and Cass narrowed the margin to 7-5 in the fifth inning, but would get no closer.
The Trojans utilized five different pitchers with starter Kannen Christian picking up the win. Zack Broome, Zeke McDonald, Chris Gaiter, and Ryan Anderson also pitched for Carrollton. Blaine Ingram had two hits in the Colonels’ loss. Bryson Markley had a double and finished with three RBI. Kyle Miller contributed a hit and two RBI while Jayden Smith added one hit.
Cass starting pitcher Jordan Gani (2 IP, 6R, 4ER, 4H, 3BB, 2K) was tagged with the loss. Thomas Botts (4 IP, 4R, 2ER, 6H, 2BB, 5K) entered in the third inning and closed out the contest on the mound for the Colonels.
The win for Carrollton was their ninth straight to finish the regular season 24-5. The Trojans finished 13-3 in Region 7-AAAAA and in a three-way tie at the top of the region standings with Kell and East Paulding. Cass finished the year 7-19 overall and was 3-13 in region play.
