Chargers hold on for conference win
The Georgia Highlands College baseball team went back-and-forth with West Georgia Tech Wednesday evening, but came away with an important 6-5 home conference win. There were four lead changes in the contest, but the Chargers went ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh with a three-run inning and then held off the Knights over the final two frames.
Jacob Meyer (2 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) picked up the pitching win for Georgia Highlands in relief of starter Dalton Rhadans (6 IP, 3ER, 9H, 0BB, 6K). Logan Ward (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 2K) did not allow a run while recording the final three outs for a save.
Bryson Horne had three hits, a walk, and two RBI to lead the Chargers’ attack. Hunter Moody and Trace Twardoski (2 RBI) both finished with two hits including a double each. Blake Brady and Willis Kemp contributed one hit and one RBI apiece. Skylar McPhee and Parker Orr added one hit each.
The loss drops West Georgia Tech to 16-24 for the year and 7-16 in conference action. Georgia Highlands (27-19, 13-10) remains in third place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association with seven league games remaining. The Chargers play at Gordon College Friday afternoon and start a four game series with East Georgia State Monday. The first of the four will be at LakePoint with the final three games of the series Friday and Saturday at East Georgia.
