Big inning vaults Tigers past Coahulla Creek
A seven-run fifth inning vaulted Adairsville past Coahulla Creek 9-8 in Dalton Tuesday night.
The Tigers trailed 2-0 early, tied the game 2-2 in the third inning, but fell behind again when the Colts scored two runs in the fourth. Adairsville’s big inning built a 9-4 lead and the Tigers held off the Colts down the stretch for a one-run, Region 6-AAA road win.
Levi Blackwell (2.1 IP, 4R, 2ER, 4H, 3BB, 1K) picked up the pitching win for Adairsville in relief of starter Elijah Padgett (3 IP, 3ER, 2H, 6BB, 1K). Wade Conduff (0.2 IP, 1ER, 0H, 2BB, 1K) retired the final two outs in the sixth inning and Noah Nation (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1K) earned a save with a scoreless seventh inning on the mound.
Drew Sage (4 IP, 5R, 4ER, 5H, 1BB, 6K) suffered the pitching loss for Coahulla Creek.
Matt Jenkins had three hits including a pair of doubles and three RBI to pace the Colts’ offense. Donovan Sims had two hits. Trace Still paced the Tigers with two hits and two RBI. Landon Ayers added a pair of hits and one RBI. Evan Henry doubled with two RBI. B.J. Roper contributed a hit and two RBI. Logan Hunt and Blackwell finished with a hit and one RBI each. Kyler Smith and Conduff added one hit apiece for Adairsville’s ten hit total.
Coahulla Creek falls to 9-13 overall and 8-6 in the region with the loss.
Adairsville (5-15, 4-10) will host Ringgold Wednesday and Murray County Thursday. Both games are scheduled for first pitch at 5:55 p.m.
