Chargers softball splits doubleheader at Gordon State


Georgia Highlands softball split a conference doubleheader at Gordon State College Saturday with a 3-2 loss in the first game and a 5-4 extra innings win in Game 2.


The Chargers were limited to only three hits in the opener by Highlanders’ pitcher Madison Powell (7 IP, 2R, 0ER, 3H, 0BB, 1K).


Mallory Alford doubled. Alexis Davis had a hit and one RBI and Sydney McDonald had one hit for GHC. Pitcher Kara Kight drove in a Chargers’ run with a second inning groundout. Kight (6 IP, 3ER, 7H, 1BB, 3K) also suffered the pitching loss despite a solid, complete-game effort. In Game 2, Georgia Highlands came from behind for a win in eight innings.

Haley Robinson (8 IP, 4ER, 9H, 1BB) was the Chargers’ complete-game pitcher. Lexi Palazzo had two hits including a solo home run in the second inning that gave the Chargers an early 1-0 lead. Alford also had two hits. Emma McDonald had one hit and one RBI. Davis contributed a hit. Deyonce Lewis and Sydney McDonald both added one RBI.


With Saturday’s split, Gordon College is 12-25 overall and 8-14 in conference play.


Georgia Highlands (22-16, 13-9) hosts a pair of conference doubleheaders next week. Andrew College visits Thursday and the Chargers will entertain Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Saturday.
