Lady Canes, Hurricanes suffer narrow losses at LaGrange
The Cartersville High School soccer teams both suffered tough losses Thursday night at LaGrange in Region 5-AAAA action. The Lady Canes lost in overtime 3-2 and the Hurricanes lost on penalty kicks after overtime, 5-4.
LAGRANGE 3, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 2 (OT) The Lady Canes led at halftime 1-0 by virtue of a Micah Vance goal assisted by Abbey Craig, but the host Lady Grangers scored in the first thirty seconds of the second half to draw even at 1-1. The score remained tied through regulation and went to overtime. In the opening minute of the first overtime period, Kalyn Donegan gave Cartersville a 2-1 lead off an assist from Devondria Johnson. Twenty seconds later, LaGrange answered again and also scored the eventual game-winning goal approximately ninety seconds later. The Lady Grangers improved to 7-5 overall and 5-0 in Region 5-AAAA. LaGrange has one region game remaining. They host Sandy Creek on April 12. The Lady Canes (8-3-1, 5-1) have now completed their region slate and return to action after Spring Break with a game April 12 at Shaw in Columbus.
LAGRANGE 5, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 4 (PKs) The Canes and Grangers battled to a 3-3 tie in regulation and were tied 4-4 after two, five-minute overtimes sending the game to penalty kicks for a conclusion. LaGrange, now 7-2-2 overall and 5-0 in Region 5-AAAA picked up the win on PKs. Cartersville (7-4, 5-1) has completed the region schedule. The Grangers still have one region contest remaining at home April 12 against Sandy Creek. The Canes will return to the pitch April 12 at Shaw in Columbus.
