Villa Rica wins back-and-forth battle at Woodland
Trailing 2-0 going to the bottom of the sixth inning Wednesday night at home, Woodland scored three times to take a 3-2 lead but Villa Rica regained the lead in the next frame and held on for a 4-3 Region 7-AAAAA win at The Ballpark at Woodland. Villa Rica led 1-0 after two innings and the score stayed that way until the visitors went up 2-0 in the top of the sixth. Johnny Bravy (7 IP, 3ER, 4H, 1BB, 8K) went the distance for Villa Rica to earn the pitching win. Bailey Ward (6.2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 7H, 3BB, 3K) suffered the pitching loss for Woodland. Peyton Posey (0.1 IP, 1H) retired the final out in the seventh inning. Mekhi Boykin and Keaton Taylor combined for four hits and four RBI to pace the Villa Rica offense. Scotty Smith hit a solo home run for Woodland’s go-ahead run in the sixth inning. The two other Woodland runs scored without benefit of a hit with Marco Haro and Koby Stansell scoring on a catcher throwing error. Haro had reached as a hit batsman and Stansell reached safely on a fielder’s choice.
Haro and Stansell both had hits earlier in the contest and Posey added the other hit for the locals. Villa Rica improved to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in region play.
Woodland (8-10, 5-6) travels to Villa Rica Friday at 5:55 p.m. to complete the two game region series.
