Bartow 14U advances to GRPA District 5 finals
The Bartow County 14U basketball all-stars defeated South Cobb 62-41 on Saturday in the second of two wins at the GRPA District 5 tournament at Ron Anderson Recreation Center in Powder Springs. Against South Cobb, the locals were led by 12 points each from Bryce Waynick and Jadas Whatley. Nehemiah DeRoche and Anthony Daise followed with eight points each. Jonah Cooper and Isaiah Ford contributed six apiece. Shamar Burgs and Cooper Dishinger finished with five points each.
Earlier on Saturday, Bartow 14U topped Rome 76-44.
Waynick paced Bartow with 19 points followed by DeRoche with 15, Whatley 13, Dishinger 12, Ford 10, Cooper five, and Burgs with two points.
The two wins advanced Bartow 14U to the district Championship Monday night at 6:30 p.m. against host Powder Springs. The Cartersville 14U boys split a pair of games Saturday with a win over Bremen 59-44 before falling in the semifinals to Powder Springs, 58-25. In 17U action Saturday, Bartow County fell to host Powder Springs 64-59. Dylan Clayton was top scorer for Bartow with 14 points. Darius Ward followed with 10. Mark Williams, Jenson Parton and Isaac Finch tossed in eight apiece. Brandon Cook scored five points. Josh Reed and Jay Rodgers added four and two points, respectively.
