Local girls wrestlers will compete in State Sectionals this weekend seeking spot in state's firs
Last February, GHSA Executive Director Dr. Robin Hines made the announcement that Georgia would add a high school wrestling state championship. In fact, the GHSA becomes only the seventh state nationally to have a girls wrestling state championship competition. Hines also included in his announcement that he expects to see additional females compete in the sport in coming years.
The four local high schools with wrestling programs will have participants this year in the inaugural competition with Cartersville High School leading the way. The Lady Canes will have eight wrestlers in the Class 4A Section A tournament at West Laurens High School while Adairsville, Cass, and Woodland will each have one female wrestler at their respective State Sectionals.
