Feuerbach comments on Coach Joey King's departure
Cartersville High School head football coach Joey King announced to his team Thursday morning that he will be leaving the Canes’ program to take a Division-I college assistant coaching position. King, who will become a receivers coach in his new position, will make the announcement regarding his new college program on Monday. He has also recommended his current defensive coordinator and Cartersville alum Conor Foster be named the new head coach of the Hurricanes. Superintendent Marc Feuerbach was contacted by WBHF’s Kevin Pate for his remarks on King’s departure and the school system’s plans for hiring a new head football coach. King, who reached 50 wins faster than any coach in Georgia high school football history, compiled a 67-4 record in five seasons at Cartersville with the Canes winning state titles in 2015 and 2016. King’s teams reached the state semifinals four times and was region champion all five seasons. He also owns the best win percentage of any Georgia high school coach with a minimum of 25 games at the helm. Letter from Coach Joey King:
“To all CHS Faculty and Staff:
Today is a very emotional day for me and I’m sure it will be for our players as well. I am very sad and very excited to announce that I will no longer be the head football coach at Cartersville High School. I’m sure some of them are sad, and maybe some even excited….who knows?! I wanted to let you all know how much I have appreciated the way you all have welcomed me and my family to this community. I also want to thank you for loving on all of these students the way that you do!
I am taking a leap of faith and taking a position as an assistant football coach at a Division 1 program. I can assure you that I am leaving on my own accord and that the Hurricane Nation is as strong as ever! It would be EASY for me to stay, but God has provided an opportunity for my family and we are trusting his provision. I always tell my players that you are either growing or decaying, and I feel that this is an opportunity for me to grow professionally. We have been praying and reading Proverbs 16 and trust that this is the right decision.
I am thankful to Dr. Hinesley, Dr. Feuerbach, Mrs. Tierce, and Coach Demastus for allowing me the opportunity to coach here. It has truly been amazing. I tell people all of the time that I am thankful for relationships and opportunities. The people here (you and these kids) are what truly makes this place special. I am going to miss coaching these boys more than you can imagine!! I’m also going to miss working with you all and I wish you nothing but the best. Please keep my family in your prayers as we make this transition. Thanks for all that you do!
