Fourth quarter surge lifts Canes past White County


The Cartersville boys evened their season mark Wednesday evening with a road victory over host White County at the Warriors’ Classic in Cleveland. The Canes suffered through a rough third quarter, but rallied in the final eight minutes for a 49-46 win to build momentum heading into their region slate. Cartersville held a 13-10 lead after one quarter and was tied at 22 at halftime. White County then outscored the Hurricanes 15-6 in the third quarter to take a 37-28 lead. In the fourth, the Canes turned the tables by outscoring White County 21-9 to close out a three-point victory. Perignon Dyer had a game-high 23 points for Cartersville. Austin Cauffman scored seven points. Amarai Orr contributed five. Devonte Ross and Micah Tart posted four points each. Marquail Coaxum and Kolbe Benham rounded out the Canes’ scoring with three points apiece.


Austin Harris led White County with 20 points. Chandler Harris added nine.


White County lost its eighth game of the Warriors’ last nine starts to slip to 3-11 on the year. Cartersville (6-6) has now won four straight and opens the Region 5-AAAA schedule at Cedartown Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and will host Central-Carroll Saturday at 4 p.m. at The Storm Center.
