Colonels stopped in semifinals; Tigers drop fourth straight


The Cass boys lost their semifinal game at the Georgia Nylon and Thread Shootout at the Rock Friday night, falling to the Cherokee Warriors 67-50.


The Colonels stayed close deep into the third quarter and had the Cherokee lead cut to two points, but the Warriors pulled away in the final stanza for a 17-point victory and a trip to Saturday’s tournament finals.


Cherokee led 14-11 after one quarter, 28-24 at halftime, and 44-39 at the end of the third quarter.


The Warriors (6-5) were led by Taihland Owens’ 30 points. Zack Vickers added 10 points for Cherokee.


Jacquez Fountain scored 19 for Cass. He was followed by Jordan Ford with nine points. C.J. Pipkin scored eight, Zay Jackson five, Andrew Glaze scored three, Zaylan Chaney two, and Justice Hayes and Ethan Carter both scored one point.


Cherokee will play Furtah Prep in Saturday's championship game at 8:30 p.m. Furtah Prep defeated Rockmart 65-57 in Friday's late semifinal game. Cass (6-8) will play in the tournament’s third place game Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against Rockmart.



THOMSON 76, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 50


In a consolation round game at the Rockmart High School Shootout at the Rock, the Adairsville boys lost to Thomson 76-50.


The Bulldogs improved to 9-2 with their victory and will play in Saturday afternoon's consolation finals against Cedartown. For Adairsville, it was a fourth-straight loss. The Tigers are now 4-8 for the year and will play Bremen in another consolation game Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Rockmart High School.
